"Supreme Sultan"
Legendary,Breed-building American Saddlebred Stallion
"Supreme
Sultan" has earned a place alongside the very greatest Saddlebreds
in the history of the breed. It would be far too great a task to
list all of his
champion sons and daughters in this space. We will not list names, as everyone is
well aware of the great stars of the
show ring and breeding world this majestic
stallion produced, and has their own particular favorites. He lead the sires list
for seven
years. He sired a world champion in all three major divisions at the
Kentucky State Fair. His sons and daughters are fabulous producers,
as are their
sons and daughters. In short, his name and contribution to the American Saddlebred
will live on as long as the proud breed
exists.
The artist saw this remarkable stallion in person many years ago, and did this
portrait from memory. Available photographs were
referred to for verification
of markings, but other than that, this portrait is entirely the result of the
lasting impression this
charismatic stallion had on the artist. It is Mr. Walls'
hope that this image will contribute to the memory of this grand history maker.

"The Darley Arabian"
Legendary Foundation Sire
"The Darley Arabian" was unquestionably one of the most important breeding influences
in the history
of horsedom. Along with The Godolphin Arabian and The Byerley Turk, the trio became the
foundation of many of the
world's most beloved breeds. Certainly, in Thoroughbreds, his impact is remarkable
as he sired
Bartlet's Childers, who, in turn, sired
Squirt, sire of Marske, who sired the legendary
ECLIPSE.
America's highly coveted championship trophies are called
the "Eclipse" award after that great champion.
Another son, the great Flying Childers, was the sire of Blaze who figures prominantly
in the blood of
the American Saddlebred, Hackney, and Standardbred. The Darley Arabian can also be found in the background
of Justin
Morgan. There are many books and websites that contain extended and detailed stories about
this great ancestor, and we could go on and on
in this ad, but we suggest, if you so choose, you can
refer to them, all of which will be of great value to the reader.
Gathering all available
images of this historical stallion, the artist's goal was to produce
a picture that would not only retain the feel of the horse' time in history,
but also provide
a realistic portrait, rather than the stylized pictures done during the horse' lifetime.

in the NCHA
finals. During his exceptional career, he amassed earnings of $172,710.00. As a breeding horse,
he was a genuine sensation.

at the age of 31, and was inducted into the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame in 2008. To this
day,
his descendants continue to write new chapters in Quarter Horse history. This legendary

"The Battle"
Five Gaited Horses Locked in Combat on the Rail at Louisville
"The Battle" There can be little doubt that the thousands of spectators who go to Louisville for
the great World's Championship Horse
Show each year are all looking forward to one of the legendary
two-horse workouts in the Five-Gaited Stake. In the horse show world, nothing
is more thrilling than
the sight of two sensational gaited competitors charging down the rail of the famed Freedom Hall.
This print depicts the
artist's concept of one of these spine-tingling moments. Each rider, knowing that
his horse' place in Saddlebred history is on the line, urges
his mount on to his greatest performance.
The horse on the rail cranks back his head and drives forward with a look in his eye that says he
knows
that he is in the fight of his life and must rise to the challenge. The rider on the near horse glances
over at his high-powered competition
and realizes that he too must ask his magnificent wild-eyed horse
for his supreme effort. Neither of these "gladiators" will give an inch, and
it is up to the judges to
decide who will be crowned World's Five-Gaited Grand Champion. Hopefully, this scene will remind the
viewer of the epic
battles that draw people back to this wonderful show year after year.
"The Battle" had been intended to be a preliminary sketch, but, upon
completion, the artist realized
that the drawing had captured exactly what he had in mind, and determined that it needed to be taken
no further.
This picture has been well-received by all who have seen it, and, therefore, we have decided
to produce this limited edition.
This
is an extremely small edition of 100 (only 65 are now left) signed and numbered prints.
All who have purchased it have been very

"A Mother's Vigilance"
Protecting Her New Foal
"A Mother's Vigilance" depicts a moment that is often seen by horsemen
throughout the world.
In this case, a mare of advanced years, who has produced numerous foals in her long life,
still shows maternal concern for
her young foal when a timid colt approaches for a visit.
The protective matron lets the uninvited youngster know that she's not yet ready for
her
nervous filly to have a new friend. The artist did this portrait completely from imagination
as a tribute to that remarkable bond that exists
between mothers and their young.

cream-colored paper.

sharp ears, arched neck and
high, rolling motion, this elegant lady is most definitely "on the lead."

"Wing Commander"
Legendary Saddlebred Stallion
Few horses in history
can be credited with completely changing a breed, but the fabled Wing
Commander did just that. In the ring, shown by the great Earl
Teater for the fabulous Dodge
Stables, he rewrote the record books, claiming the title of World's Five-Gaited Grand Champion
for six consecutive
years (1948-1953), plus being the World's Champion Five-Gaited Stallion
seven times (1947-1953).
As a sire, he led the ratings for six
consecutive years (1963-1968).
Famed for his tremendous action and blistering speed, he passed these traits on to his sons
and daughters,
who won World titles and countless championships from coast to coast. As breeding
stock, his get not only produce show ring stars, but continue
to do so from one generation to the
next. If you've seen a Saddlebred class in the last fifty years, you've seen a descendant of this
remarkable
individual. If you've owned members of the breed in that period of time, there's probably
been "Wing" blood in them. People who know nothing
of Saddlebreds have heard of this great icon of
horsedom, as he's been featured as the breed standard in books and encyclopedias for many years.
The artist, who saw "The Wing" as an older horse, carefully studied every available photo in his
huge collection of Saddlebred books and
magazines, plus referred to movie films, in the hopes of
producing an honest portrait of the great champion. You can now be among the very few to
own this
tribute to greatness.
Wing Commander was, is and will always be -- a legend.

"Seabiscuit"
Legendary Racing Champion
There is little left to be said about the great
Seabiscuit.
His amazing story was beautifully told in the Academy Award
nominated movie. This exceptional champion, a grandson of the
fabled
Man O' War, was truly one of the greatest horses to ever grace the American turf.
He was able to overcome every obstacle that
came his way and emerged as the world's
leading money winner of his time and became a beloved national hero in the process.
His victory over
the superb Triple Crown winner, War Admiral, in their fabled match
race was one of racing's most electrifying moments. Of course,
his triumph in the 1940
Santa Anita Handicap, after having suffered what most believed a career-ending injury,
gave his incredible story
a magical ending.

"Barbaro"
Beloved 2006 Kentucky Derby Winner
The 2006 Kentucky Derby consisted of a field of 20 colts that were considered by
most experts to be
one of the most evenly balanced groups in the history of the famous classic. The magnificent Barbaro
entered
the race with an undefeated record on both dirt and turf. At the end of the grueling
mile-and-a-quarter test, Barbaro glided across
the finish line a remarkable 6-1/2 lengths ahead
of his closest rival. This was the greatest margin of victory since Triple Crown winner
Assault,
60 years before. Following the resounding triumph, numerous authorities and a vast group of horse racing
fans across the
United States and the world believed that Barbaro was the Triple Crown champion
we've been waiting for since Affirmed last earned
the title back in 1978.
The handsome colt entered The Preakness as the heavy favorite. His army of fans collectively held their
breath, waiting
for history to be made, but were heart broken as the great colt took a bad step early
in the race, severely injuring his right hind leg,
which ended the career and threatened the life of
the beloved star. Barbaro was immediately shipped to The New Bolton Center in
Philadelphia, PA, where
the brilliant staff, headed by Dr. Dean Richardson, did everything possible to save him, but sadly,
there was just too
much going against the wonderful colt. The image of his gallant fight to survive
will live in the hearts of both race fans and the many thousands
of others who were enthralled by
this equine marvel for generations, as will his magnificent Derby victory. Barbaro's strength
and
intelligence allowed him to survive far longer than a merely average horse, as he was indeed a
special and brilliant star. Long live the
memory of this king of the turf.

"American Saddlebred Foundation Sires"
Historical Stallion Portraits
This unique print should interest anyone involved in the owning, breeding and showing of
American Saddlebreds, as well as those who simply
have a love of the breed.
In mid-1985, a committee was formed to oversee the establishment of the new American Saddle
Horse Museum in
the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington. The various members had searched through
old records in an effort to find any pictures of the horses
which were considered to be the backbone
of today's Saddlebred. Unfortunately, almost no images could be found.
As an equine artist who
spent many years studying Saddlebred history, James Walls was given the task
of creating believable portraits of the sires as they may have
appeared. Denmark had been recognized
as the sole "Foundation Sire," and his portrait is set in the center of the print at his rightful
place.
In 1991, a year after this print was produced, the committee determined that Harrison Chief should also
be considered a "Foundation
Sire," and was given the title "Harrison Chief FS". It should be noted
that Harrison Chief is shown directly to the right of
Denmark FS on the finished print.
Authorities have pronounced this print as an important part of Saddlebred history.
Pictured in the
print are either pure-bred or crosses of Thoroughbreds, Morgans, Trotting-breds,
and other breeds which, as a result of careful planning
and breeding, have produced the proud and elegant
horses seen today. These portraits can be found among the pages of the book,
"The Saddlebred:
America's Horse of Distinction," and also the newly released title, "Kentucky's Saddlebred Heritage."
The print is 24" x 36", printed on heavy high-quality sepia-tone paper, which adds an overall historical
effect.
If you own a Saddlebred, you
can be sure that some of the horses shown in this print will be
in his family tree. This print hangs in the collections of many noted owners,
breeders, and trainers
of World Champion Saddlebreds, along with an with an international group of fans of this wonderful breed.
Each print
comes with a hand signed certificate of authenticity that will be made out to either the buyer
or the person who will be receiving it as a gift.
For an additional $35.00, a remarque (original drawing) of Denmark F-S or Harrison Chief (your choice) will

"The Immortal Ruffian"
1975 FILLY TRIPLE CROWN WINNER
It's now been over
thirty years since Ruffian succumbed following the injury she sustained in the famous
race between herself and Kentucky Derby winner,
Foolish Pleasure. Ruffian completely captured the hearts
of both casual fans and racing experts. Mr. Walls was greatly moved by
the loss of Ruffian and completed
her portrait immediately following her untimely demise, in the hope to, in some way, contribute toward
preserving her imposing stature and personality for future generations. This picture shows the majestic
filly in an open field, against a background
of dramatic clouds that suggest the way she stormed across
America's race tracks -- and the dazzled eyes of her throngs of adoring fans. This large,
high quality
print is produced on very heavy stock and will be mailed to you, flat, in its own custom-made carton.
The overall size is 21" x 28",
and the image measures 16" x 24". Each print comes with a hand signed certificate
of authenticity that will be made out to either the buyer or
the person who will be receiving it as a gift.
For an additional $35.00, the artist
will do an original remarque sketch in the lower left
margin of your print. Priority mail shipping in
the US will be $14.00. Foreign shipping will be determined (contact seller).
Shown is the print in
its entirety, a detail of Ruffian's head and neck, and a close-up example of
a one-of-a-kind remarque sketch.
